What to expect from your hearing aids:

Hearing aids can dramatically improve hearing and overall quality of life. But it’s also important to remember that they’re not a ‘miracle cure’. They won’t totally restore your normal hearing. There will also be a period of getting used to them. For most people it’s several weeks. But this adjustment period is essential to getting the maximum benefit from your hearing aids.

Overall, you’ll find your new hearing aids allow you to:

  • Hear better in noisy situations.
  • Hear softer sounds like a child’s voice or phone conversations.
  • Keep loud sounds from becoming uncomfortably loud.
  • Understand speech better. Certain sounds and words aren’t confused with each other.

Use and maintenance:

Modern hearing aids are amazing pieces of technology, so they require some care and simple periodic upkeep to stay in top condition. Here are a few instructions you’ll be expected to keep in mind:

  • When not in use, store them in their case.
  • Keep them from excessive heat and moisture.
  • Clean the hearing aid every day and clean the battery contacts periodically.
  • Change the batteries often, so you don’t suddenly run out of power. When not in use, open the battery compartment door to prolong battery life.
  • Don’t wear your hearing aids in the shower, swimming or when using a hair dryer, hair spray or other types of spray.

Your Sonus hearing care professional will go over further details of use and maintenance for your specific style and brand of hearing aids. And please feel free to ask further questions you have.
